Dashboard

The Dashboard is your central command center in CandleLog. It provides a real-time overview of your trading performance, displaying key metrics, charts, and recent activity. Use it to quickly assess how your trading is performing and identify areas for improvement.

Overview

The Dashboard is organized into three main sections:

  1. Key Metrics - Essential performance numbers
  2. Performance Charts - Visual representation of P&L over time
  3. Advanced Analytics - Deeper performance and risk analysis

Time Period Selection

Filter your dashboard data by selecting a time period:

The custom date picker allows you to analyze any specific date range. You can also navigate to the dashboard with pre-selected dates from the Calendar view.

Key Metrics

The top section displays essential trading statistics in card format:

Total P&L

Your cumulative profit and loss across all trades in the selected period. Displayed in green when positive, red when negative.

Win Rate

The percentage of winning trades versus total trades. A win rate above 50% is typically marked as "Good".

Average Win

The average profit amount from your winning trades. Use this to understand your typical successful trade size.

Total Trades

The total number of trades executed in the selected period.

Profit Factor

Calculated as gross profits divided by gross losses. A profit factor above 1.0 indicates profitability:

  • Above 1.5 - Strong performance
  • 1.0 to 1.5 - Marginally profitable
  • Below 1.0 - Losing money overall

Average R:R

Your average risk-to-reward ratio across trades. Higher values indicate you're capturing more reward relative to risk.

Max Drawdown

The largest peak-to-trough decline in your account equity. This shows your worst losing period.

Max Win Streak

The longest consecutive run of winning trades. Useful for understanding your best performance periods.

Average Loss

The average loss amount from your losing trades. Compare this to Average Win to assess your risk/reward balance.

Performance Charts

The middle section features interactive charts that visualize your trading performance over time.

Equity Curve

A line chart showing your cumulative P&L over time. The line is:

  • Green - When you're in overall profit
  • Red - When you're in overall loss

Key features:

  • Hover over any point to see the exact cumulative P&L
  • View the number of trades at each data point
  • Chart adapts to your selected time period
  • Multiple time intervals available (1m, 5m, 15m, 1h, daily)

Daily P&L

A bar chart showing profit and loss for each trading day:

  • Green bars - Profitable days
  • Red bars - Losing days
  • Gray bars - Breakeven days

Toggle between Equity Curve and Daily P&L using the button in the top-right corner of the chart.

Recent Trades

Adjacent to the charts, the Recent Trades panel shows your latest trading activity:

  • Symbol - The traded instrument
  • Direction - LONG or SHORT badge
  • Status - OPEN or CLOSED badge
  • Date - Entry and exit timestamps
  • P&L - Profit or loss for closed trades

Click any trade to view its full details. Click "View all" to navigate to the complete Trades page.

Advanced Analytics

The bottom section provides deeper insights through two specialized panels.

Winning Trades Analysis

  • Count - Number of winning trades
  • Average Win - Mean profit per winning trade
  • Largest Win - Your best single trade

Losing Trades Analysis

  • Count - Number of losing trades
  • Average Loss - Mean loss per losing trade
  • Largest Loss - Your worst single trade

Monthly Performance

When you have trades across multiple months:

  • Best Month - Your most profitable month with total P&L
  • Worst Month - Your least profitable month with total P&L

Risk Metrics

Comprehensive risk analysis to help manage your trading risk:

Primary Risk Indicators

Risk Level Assessment

CandleLog automatically calculates an overall risk level (Low, Medium, or High) based on:

  • Drawdown severity
  • Sharpe ratio quality
  • Risk/reward balance

Risk Insights

Additional risk metrics:

  • Largest Single Loss - Your biggest losing trade
  • Loss Frequency - Percentage of trades that were losers
  • Volatility - Standard deviation of your trade returns
  • Avg Trade Size - Average absolute value of trades
  • Risk per Trade - Average loss amount
  • Recovery Factor - Net profit divided by max drawdown

Risk Recommendations

The system provides actionable recommendations based on your metrics:

  • Position sizing advice when drawdown is high
  • Risk/reward improvement suggestions
  • Consistency recommendations for low Sharpe ratios
  • Entry criteria review when loss frequency is elevated

Interpreting Your Dashboard

Healthy Trading Signs

  • Positive Total P&L with an upward-sloping equity curve
  • Win Rate above 40% combined with profit factor above 1.5
  • Average Win greater than Average Loss (positive expectancy)
  • Manageable drawdowns relative to total gains
  • Consistent monthly performance without extreme swings

Warning Signs

  • Declining equity curve over multiple periods
  • Profit factor below 1.0 indicates losing money overall
  • Large drawdowns exceeding 20-30% of peak equity
  • Win streaks followed by large losses may indicate overconfidence
  • High volatility with inconsistent trade sizes

Using the Data

  1. Weekly Review - Check the 7-day period to assess recent performance
  2. Monthly Analysis - Use 30-day view for strategy evaluation
  3. Quarterly Adjustment - 90-day data reveals longer-term patterns
  4. Annual Assessment - Compare year-over-year for growth tracking

  • Trades - Click any recent trade to view full details
  • Calendar - Navigate to dashboard with specific dates selected
  • Strategies - Filtered trades update based on strategy assignments
  • Performance Analytics - Deeper analysis available on the dedicated analytics page

Best Practices

Regular Monitoring

Check your dashboard daily or after each trading session to stay aware of your performance.

Period Comparison

Compare different time periods to identify trends. Is your 7-day performance better or worse than your 30-day average?

Risk First

Pay attention to risk metrics before celebrating profits. Sustainable trading requires controlled risk.

Use Custom Dates

When evaluating a specific strategy change or market event, use custom dates to isolate that period's performance.

Act on Recommendations

The risk recommendations section provides actionable guidance. Review and implement suggestions to improve your trading.
